MASS SERIES

Hysterectomy, Hysteroscopy, and Gender Reassignment Surgery.

In the spring of 2010, three surgeries caused me to reexamine my thoughts on femininity.

After being diagnosed with stage four Endometriosis, I thought about how similar my genitals would be to that of ones my best friend was purchasing - functional as a receptor but unable to participate in creating another human. My friend and I both underwent hormone therapy in order to more effectively be women. My mother was unable to eat foods that had even the tiniest trace of hormones in it to effectively be a living woman. With my mother and I having both been commercial models in our respective times - I thought about how our bodies could were able to be products - or contribute to the selling of products, while the bodies themselves couldn't necessarily "produce".

The forms that subsequently emerged existed in a space between the collar bone and knees.  Subtle, sensual, supple, sick, sterile.

TRANSITIVE VENUS

2"x1.5"x6" , bronze

Her gender reassignment pre and post op body are different while she is the same.  The fluidity of boundaries as they relate to traditional gender binaries and the materiality of surface that the work is displayed on is where growing in to and out of are made apparent in their, transition.

WRAPPED

12"x17"13", fiberglass

She is wrapped, she is wrapping.

She is an inhabitant of herself

HARD STEALS

3"x6"x7”, bronze

To be attractive is to be generous.  You are here because you were allowed to be here.  You’re looking because your eyes were invited.  To receive is generous.  You’re inside.  You’re welcome.

LEDA

13"x5"x4", fiberglass

A nude torso bending back into foreverness as she descends a staircase.  She will live forever as long as she doesn’t move - and she can’t.

NUTCRACKER

4"x10"x10”, plaster

The distortion of a body in a/the generic fertility symbol of a flower.  Labia are not petals with nectar within. The entire female form is a petal, repeated, to protect and attract  the nothing within.

SIDE SADDLE

14"x8"x5", fiberglass

If purchasing a mare with the intention to breed, ass and thigh are where one looks first.  This pregnant figure highlights the swollen strength of pregnancy in the areas used to determine fertility.

SLABBED

3"x4"x7", bronze

Male genitalia presented as a reclined female form.  A flaccid penis, a piece of useless flesh holds the same weight as an entire female body, an entire woman.

V TO C

5"x4"x4", bronze

This vagina is a house where a clit lives. The vagina is talking, the clit is listening. This vagina is aggressive, I am not aroused.

T AND/OR A

1'x1.5'x.5', fiberglasse

Stereotyped understandings of sexuality and biological attraction has become a programmed attraction where shape itself rather than the actual body part dictates response.  This response occurs for the sake of responding.

NUTCRACKER PART TWO

4"x10"x10”, plaster

The distortion of a body in a/the generic fertility symbol of a flower.  Labia are not petals with nectar within. The entire female form is a petal, repeated, to protect and attract  the nothing within.

THOROUGHBRED

13"x14"x13", bronze

This angle shows a thoroughbred pre-breeding and pre-paired.  Another shows post as well as the side effect.  WIth no joints or bones, the threat of a break is eliminated.  Muscles and fat that can bend into foreverness allow this thoroughbred to to sow herself into infinity.
