BLACKSTAR FF PANEL

Sep 17, 2021

Filmmaking can be a site of refuge and potential healing for audiences and creators alike. Yet the violent history of cinema and the conventions that facilitate extraction can end up hindering the possibility of getting well. This panel orbits around some of the ethical, culturally informed practices that directors dealing with trauma and mental wellbeing must consider in seeking to prevent further harm as they use their craft as a site for repair. With Michèle Stephenson, Lyric Cabral, Gessica Généus, and Nicole Naone; moderated by Yolo Akili Recorded during the 2021 BlackStar Film Festival. blackstarfest.org/festival
