Mural for Nextdoor

It was sad installing over Aaron’s Wookie though :(

The intention of my mural is to give voice to the haphazard magic that can happen after a few drinks with some very qualified folks who support chinatown for its aesthetic ethic and dedication to creative expansion.  The inspiration for this piece comes from the shipwreck of experiences that I bring to the table when conversing with other artists or professionals in Chinatown. The larger composition, which plays with negative space and implied lines, is really an act of portraiture, which intends to explain the ethereal arc of a good friend, Blaine Tolentino (www.societyofanimals.com), and the shifting composition of our thoughts, both organic and inorganic. Within the constraints of these alignments, I get the chance to report on some of my most obvious attachments (like the Kumulipo, Picasso’s Girl in Mirror, and Charlie Tuna) as well as my favorite muses (Joseph Pa’ahana, SuperCW, my family).  It is a pleasure to do work that honors people who dually honor my process and support me in the pursuit of art production. In this case, the inseparable nature of my art’s genealogy and the final product plays brazenly in public, a gift for all the gifts I’ve received.
